Two more cups, but so much more, and yes, we are celebrating
It was the second time we won two cups at the Mid Somerset Music Festival after competing in four categories. Our wins were in the Sacred and Male Voice Choir categories, and we achieved close second places in the Popular/Folk Song and Show Song Categories.
In a scoring system ranging from 65 through to 95+ we attained three above 90 ‘Outstanding’ scores and one ‘Exceptional’ score of 95 as well as some of the highest praise of the day from Adjudicator Sarah Jereries. The top score was gained in the Popular/Folk Song category with performances of two songs, Fix You and Biblical including a solo piece sung by Baritone James Viney.
In his own words President Keith Lawrenson said “Our fantastic winning performance at the festival demonstrate how far the choir has come in its 31 years especially under the guidance of Marion Maxey. Particularly heartening for us all were the very enthusiastic words of Sarah Jefferies including “lovely vocal quality, dynamic palletes, thrilling at full throttle, glorious, good diction, always singing with such a committed, warm performance style” and the icing on the cake “A male voice choir at its very best”……wonderful.
