A great summer tour singing with the Barnstaple Boys!

A warm welcome was waiting for Romsey at St Peter & Mary Magdalene Church from hosts Barnstaple Male Voice Choir, who also laid on an amazing buffet for their guests.

Although Romsey MVC was down in numbers compared to other concerts, the blend, concentration and enthusiasm was evident in a great all-round performance. Romsey sang Let the River Run, Bring Him Home, Pokarekare Ana and We Rise again followed by Let All Men Sing, Fix You, Prayer of the Children and Bui Doi - accompanied by pianist Richard Stannard. The choirs joined forces to produce strong renditions of Bridge Over Troubled Water, Do You Hear the People Sing and Morte Christie.

Barnstaple MVC was also in fine voice and led the way later in the evening at the nearby afterglow.

More well-performed songs rang out the following day with a stop at Bristol to entertain spectators during lunch at the match between Gloucestershire CCC and Derbyshire. A downpour meant there was not a lot of cricket to watch earlier in the day but rain didn’t stop play for Romsey whose splendid outside performance led to an immediate invite to return. Sadly Romsey MVC could not stay long enough to find out who won the man of the match - however, the choir did have a star of its own. Event organiser Steve Williams could not make the trip but his carefully laid plans went like clockwork and he received a massive round of applause in his absence.
